Preschool

Our Program

We are committed to providing quality learning programs that support and stimulate children’s growth and development. Our program is based on the child’s developmental needs which are observed and catered for through a variety of learning experiences. There is a balance between spontaneous play and guided activities. We are guided by the “The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia” (EYLF) curriculum document, along with the Literacy & Numeracy indicators as a basis for planning our teaching and learning programs.

The five Learning Outcomes of the EYLF are:

  • Children have a strong sense of identity
  • Children are connected with and contribute to their world
  • Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
  • Children are confident and involved learners
  • Children are effective communicators

We use an inquiry approach for our planning that supports children to actively engage in learning, beginning with a question, problem, or idea. Through a combined approach of child-led and educator guided experiences, children explore, ask questions and share ideas during the discovery process. Educators assist to brainstorm ideas, guide children in wondering and discussing and provide resources to support children’s investigations. Throughout our inquiry, educators document:

  • Photographs & observations of individuals or groups of children
  • Group reflections
  • Individual child’s voice
  • Analysis of what children say, do or understand
  • Possible lines of development

 Play Based Learning & Intentionality

Play-based learning allows for different types of play and our educators are intentional and purposeful in the way we plan and create environments to support children’s active engagement. Play based learning with intentionality expands children’s thinking and curiosity, promoting positive dispositions for learning. Long periods of uninterrupted play allows children to interact with other children and adults, follow their own interests and self-direct their learning.

Through their play, children:

  • Make plans
  • Create characters
  • Solve problems & test out ideas
  • Build new understandings
  • Learn how to socialise, negotiate & think with others
  • Engage in critical thinking
  • Act with intentionality & agency
  • Discover, create, improvise & imagine
  • Make friends & have fun
